How to Use the Tag Feature for Multiple MCs/ Owner operators Subsidiaries

If you operate a trucking business with multiple MC numbers, or you’re a parent company managing several subsidiaries or "tag" companies, the Tag feature in Truckpedia TMS can be a powerful organizational tool. It allows you to group, filter, and manage your operations more efficiently—all within a single platform.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through:

  • Why is tag feature useful for multi-MC or parent-subsidiary

  • How to create and apply tags

Why Use Tags If You Run Multiple MCs or Subsidiaries?

If you’re managing multiple companies under one TMS, tags can help you:

  • Segregate operations between different MCs or companies

  • Track load activity per tag/company

  • Assign drivers and equipment to specific branches

  • Customize reporting and analytics by tag

  • Improve compliance tracking (e.g., inspections or insurance by MC)

  • Avoid operational overlap by clarifying which loads or drivers belong to which business entity

How to Create and Use Tags in Truckpedia TMS

Step 1: Define Your Tagging Strategy

Before diving in, define how you want to use tags. For example:

  • Use your MC numbers as tags (e.g., MC123456, MC789012)

  • Use company names or acronyms (e.g., ETC-KY, ETC-TN, Express Sub1)

  • Use department or business unit labels if managing divisions (e.g., Dry Van Ops, Brokerage Division)

Make your tags short, clear, and consistent.

Step 2: Create Tags in Truckpedia TMS

  1. Go to the Settings section

  2. Navigate to Tags under Company.

  3. Click “Create Tag”
    • Give the tag a name that reflects the company or MC.

  4. Fill in all the details

  5. Save the tag- Hit Submit.

You can create multiple tags in advance, or create them as needed while editing entities.

Step 3: Apply Tags to Entities

Tags can be applied to many key components in the TMS:

  • Drivers: Assign each driver to a specific MC or company.

  • Loads: Tag loads based on the operating MC or affiliate company.

  • Assets (Trucks/Trailers): Ensure assets are labeled according to ownership.

  • Users: Differentiate between the staff of multiple companies by assigning tags to the user.

To tag an entity:

  1. Open the Driver, Load, Truck, or Customer record.

  2. Click on the Tag field (usually labeled “Tags” or under "Company Info").

  3. Select one or more tags from the dropdown.

  4. Click Save.

Step 4: Filter and Report by Tags

Once your system is tagged, you can:

  • Use the Filter by Tag function in dashboards (Trucks, Drivers, etc.).

  • Overviews grouped or sorted by tag (e.g.,Company Overview).

  • Use Advanced Search with tags for complex queries (e.g., “all loads tagged with XYZ Trucking and status = Delivered”).

Conclusion

Truckpedia TMS’s Tag feature is indispensable for carriers operating with multiple MCs or managing a network of subsidiaries. It helps centralize operations without sacrificing visibility or control. By using tags strategically, you can optimize dispatch, ensure compliance, and gain sharper insights into each branch of your business—all in one place.
